Reset required after a power on?

My board sometimes stops responding after a few weeks, so I have put a remote controlled (internet) socket on the PSU plug. I can now reboot my UNO, but the mydoor opener app doesn't respond after a power off of the uno - it seems to need a power on and then a reset.
Any ideas why?

You shouldn't need to reboot your board in the first place. Typically, you have a faulty board or something. Ours has been turned ON forever and the only time it gets a power cycle is when there's a power outage. I'd look into replacing the board if I were you.

Thanks - OK, I swapped the power supply (to a POE injector and POE switch) and changed the back end to 2.4 (was running 2.2). It seems much better so far
