Status Issues

I have followed all the instructions and got the Relay to work fine.
However, the status part has been giving me a lot of trouble. I have got a reed switch and am using Digital Pin 12. When the status is Open, everything is fine. When the contacts are in close position, all client requests are stuck and therefore time out. As soon as the contact is open, the requests start going through again. When I use debugging I can see that the status is being recognized correctly. The communications seem to seize though (both from the web browser as well as the app)
Is there a known solution to this? I have tried the analog pins, but they seemed too flaky in recognizing the status.
