Arduino stops responding after a week or so...

My Arduino stops responding to the iPhone app after a week or so of continuous operation. If I reboot the Arduino (pull the power out) everything is fine. Unfortunately, the times I need to remotely open the garage door for somebody is usually when the Arduino has stopped responding. Any ideas?

Hi Paul,

I never heard of such problem except with people with defective hardware. Are you using a "genuine" Arduino, Ethernet
shield and DFRobot RelayShield ? I know some clones exist out there and I've heard they can give you unexpected/intermittent
issues at times.

Also, have you had a chance to try with another Arduino board, as you might have a defective device ?

I've had my personal setup running for ever. The only time it gets shut down is when there's a power outage at my
house. It then recycles itself when the power comes back ON. It does so, on its own, and comes back up online without
any human intervention.

Best regards,

Hi Paul,

I am by no means an expert at Ardunio, but I figured I would toss out a couple of ideas for you to mull over- My guess is your device is just hanging or losing connection with the router somehow. I have not had any problems with my setup.

1. Perhaps program in a timer to send you a status email/txt/push. This could do two things- Notify you everything is still working, and perhaps keep the connection alive.
2. You could also program in a nightly reset using a simple reset function. I believe one exists for Ardunio.

Good luck.

I have been having this same issue. Unfortunately I am not using a genuine arduino board or the dfrobot relay shield. I had concerns that this may be the issue. I guess eventually I may decide to switch it out to a genuine board if it continues to happen.

Update:

After the above post, I ended up switching out my power supply and I have not had the issue at all since then. I was using a cheap 12v wall wart and switched to a 6v name brand wall wart. I suspect it was somehow overloading the voltage regulator on the arduino. Not sure if it's a non genuine arduino issue or just a voltage issue. But anyway the problem is solved now.

Same here but my Robot Relay board stops working after a couple of days. Will try another power source.

Which one? I can only find chinese crap. Tried the robot relay shield on POE but it doesn’t work.

I believe POE requires a router/switch to emit power over the network. Not all routers/switches are POE enabled. That might
explain why POE isn't working for you, unless you're sure your router/switch is POE enabled?

Also some relays require their own power (more strength) to actuate the relay. I have 2 relay shields and one will operate from just the arduino power while the other requires its own power source.
