Chamberlain door opener with My Q

I have looked thru the support posts and did not find any information that is like my problem, so I will have to bother you to see if there is a solution that you would know of.

My setup is Arduino Ethernet with DFRobot Relay shield and a wireless modem set to client. The garage door opener is a Chamberlain Model WD832KEV which has this My Q program(not sure how that would effect anything though).

I got the internet client set up and the Arduino Ethernet is working and controlling the Relay. I am using your AP on my I phone and it is triggering the relay and it is clicking but the garage door does not open. I have the relay 1 wires connected to the 2 screws on the door button attached to the wall and all it does when I trigger the AP on my phone is the LED on the door button blinks but door does not open. I tried to connect directly to the garage door opener bypassing the wall button, but I get the same result.

The Chamberlain door button has many features that my old garage door opener wall button did not have and the installation instructions says that the old one(door button) is not compatible with this new garage door setup. Not to offend but I am beginning to think the new garage door openers that are coming out are really not compatible with your setup. I am completely out of Ideas as to how to get this to work on this garage door opener. If there is a fix to remedy this in the software that would be great! Let me know?

These are the features on this new wall opener;
Command LED- this blinks when I trigger the relay from my I Phone.
Learn button
Lock button
Motion sensor switch
On TTC( door timer from 1 min to 10Min)
Off TTC (same as above)
Light button
Hold open button(TTC)

This is all on this with only the 2 attachment screws for the wires on the back. The software is basically the way you offered it except for the few changes that you suggested in the MyDoorOpener Sketch.

Thank you for your time and if you have any ideas to remedy this let me know. I will not continue with the sensor setup until I can get the garage door to open with the relay and AP.

Hi,

First, do you hear the relay click ? If you do, that means connectivity from the app to your Arduino rig is not at stake. All
is good, which is a good start ...

Second, assuming your relay is clicking (above), you need to find what makes your particular garage door open/close. Find 2
screws on that wall-mount button, that when "shorted", will trigger your garage door to open/close ... Forget about the whole
connecting to the Arduino at this point ... Simply take a wire and have it link the 2 screws. When it works manually using a simple
wire between the 2 screws, you can simply use those 2 screws to have them connected to your relay. Until you do that, no need
to proceed further.

You might have a more sophisticated wall-mount switch that's digital, although there has to be some form of contacts on there that
you can be used to simulate that "button push" ...

Keep us updated.

Yes, I did try what you suggested with the wire and the door did not open. I will look into the wall button further and see what is inside, and go from there. I will keep you updated. :?

I have done further research into this problem and I came up with this from the Chamberlain website;

Will my older accessories work with the new line of Security+ 2.0 garage door openers?

Will my older accessories work with the new line of Security+ 2.0 garage door openers?

No, the new garage door openers have an improved technology which allows for a more secure connection between your accessories and the garage door opener.

The new line of Security+ 2.0™ garage door openers utilize encrypted serial communication for all wired door controls. This new logic is embedded on both the receiver logic board (Rx/Lx) and all wired-in door controls. Use of a closed-contact device or third party "doorbell button" will result in the opener not recognizing the signal and not operating.

The new line of garage door openers has a new radio system. The Security+ 2.0™ is uniquely different from the Security+® algorithm, meaning you cannot use previous remote controls with the new garage door openers. The Security+ 2.0™ radio system leverages multi-band frequency hopping on 310Mhz, 315Mhz and 390Mhz. The receiver scans all three frequencies, and regardless of which frequency is received first, the code is deciphered and activation occurs.

I guess this answers my concerns and will not be able to use Openmydoor on this garage opener.

Hi,

Your hopes are not completely gone ... Here are a few things you might want to try first ...

1) Ultimately, there's a contact being made inside that "button wall-mount housing". Before it gets converted
to a proprietary digital signal, there's an analog button push that occurs ... You should be able to simulate that
push which triggers the "proprietary encrypted serial protocol" to do its magic ...

2) If you can't make it work with that wall-mount button, try doing the same with one of their wireless
remotes.

For both of the above, don't waste any time hooking this up to the Arduino. Just use a wire and try
momentarily touching the 2 contacts, to mimic a physical button push. You might want to "dig" under
the actual button itself to get to a point before the "proprietary encrypted serial protocol" kicks-in.

Please report on your findings. Best of luck ... Thanks!

Hello there,

I have the exact Chamberlain system with My Q technology for my garade door. Although when I bought it a year ago, I DID NOT buy the MyQ stuff [ they were charging extra $200 bucks or so].

Anyways, this year, I got excited about all the Arduino stuff, and decided to take a chance with Mydooropener. So I bought the App, relay xboard shield, programmed etc etc...and then saw this forum. It was a bit late when I found that chamberlain has beefed up their system, and a simple wire to wall mount from relay will NOT work. The last message seems to be a road end. But as advised by support, there sure is a loop hole.

I first figured that I would buy a Solenoid [ https://www.adafruit.com/products/412?g ... MgodaDEA4A], and make it "punch" the wall mount button, but when I had it working, I realized, that it LACKED the FORCE. So instead of buying a bigger solenoid, I decided to think about the wireless remote buttons that come with the garage, that you mount in your car visor.

So I got hold of one of the remote garage buttons from my car, and tool apart the casing carefully, and noticed that they have a circuit board inside.
The garage remote button is this. [ Chamberlain Model # 953EV, 3-Button Visor Remote Control with MyQ Technology ==> homedepot].
Basically, there is this 3rd button [ the BIG LONG GREY ONE on right side]. Under this plastic casing, there is a small push button that has 4 legs.
So really the hack is to RUN YOUR 2 WIRES FROM RELAY, TO THE 2 LEGS OF THIS PUSH BUTTON.

There is a nice article about how these push buttons work [ see http://www.varesano.net/blog/fabio/push ... 20examples]
So what i did is to run the relay wires directly to A and B in the above push button photo. Now I can open/close using my iphone mydooropener App.
I can do it both ways, i.e. while my iphone is connected to my home wifi as well, as when it is not, i.e. through regular cellular data network.

That does the trick. I am thinking this costs extra [ $ 34 x 2 off], but if you can buy cheaper ones, and hack into those, thats the best bet.

Hopefully, this hack can overcome all the "next" generation garage door openers....

I was about to give up on a similar setup: Raspberry Pi + WiFi dongle + relay + sensors to determine open/close, when I ran into this posting. I tried the suggested solution about using one of the remotes to operate the opener. The hardest part was opening the darn thing... once opened identifying the 2 contacts to use was as simple as holding a jumper cable and triggering the opener. Soldering a couple of wires that went straight to the relay was simple. Now I have a garage opener that can be operated within the home network. Thank you for the suggestion!!!

Glad to hear this approach has worked out for you. Remember to post a review for our app on the Apple App Store. Best regards,
