3G/Cellular??

Postby jgrreed » Mon Aug 26, 2013 4:01 pm

Hi there,

I understand that the Arduino board has to be within Wifi range, but is there a way to open a GD or gate from my iPhone when the phone is on 3G, out of the Wifi network range??

I'd love my front gate to open as I approach based on a GPS/Geolocate reading on my iPhone!!!

If the answer is no, can I suggest that as an improvement?? It'd be like the Philips Hue bulb system, I think.

Thanks,

-Jeremy.

Hi Jeremy,

The Arduino board does not have to be within WiFi range. The way it works is that
your Arduino should be hooked up to your home network (wired ethernet) and therefore
becomes visible from the internet (thru NAT port forwarding on your home router).

This approach allows the Arduino to be controlled even when you're far from home
as it does indeed already work over your phone carrier's data network (GSM, etc).

As for the GPS/Geolocation reading, if this is something you'd really like to see
in a future version, please post a new topic in the "Feature Requests" forum.

Hope this answers your questions.

Best regards,
